Jack-up Features

Designed with a floating hull and three independently elevating legs, our jack-ups have drilling equipment, supplies, crew quarters, loading and unloading facilities, a helicopter landing deck and other related equipment. Drilling equipment includes engines, drawworks or hoist, derrick, pumps to circulate the drilling fluid, drill pipe and drilling bits.

At the drilling site, the legs are lowered until they penetrate the ocean floor, and the hull is jacked up on the legs to the desired elevation above the water. The hull then serves as a drilling platform. After the well is completed, the hull is lowered into the water, the legs are elevated and the rig is towed to the next drilling site. Our rigs feature propulsion thrusters that assist in towing.

Jack-up Technology

We offer the latest technology, including cantilever jack-ups, which have the ability to extend a portion of the sub-structure containing key drilling equipment. By positioning the drawworks, derrick and related drilling equipment over fixed production platforms, cantilever jack-ups perform drilling operations with minimum interruption to production. Some of our conventional jack-ups feature "skid base" technology, which enables the rig floor drilling equipment to be "skidded" out over the top of a fixed platform.

All of our rigs employ top-drive drilling systems, which are automated pipe-handling systems that greatly accelerate the drilling process. Our most recent rig designs were built to efficiently handle the size of drill string required to reach a well depth of 30,000 feet and beyond. Our offshore drilling fleet includes:

  • 20 premium cantilever jack-up rigs featuring three harsh environment Gorilla class rigs, four enhanced Super Gorilla class rigs, four Tarzan class rigs and two 240-C class rigs
  • Three conventional jack-up rigs, including three rigs with skid base capability
